Page 1 of 2 What's the Hold Up? Feel like you're on perpetual "hold?"
And for the self-employed, feeling flat can come from having an erratic income or simple boredom.
I'm here to help you think through professional and lifestyle problems, based on my 30 years of experience, and the insights I gain from workshops supporting our new passion for making a life while making a living.
First, remember that people from all walks of life; athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, financiers and you, occasionally feel that they have reached a plateau in their careers. Constant forward motion, success and satisfaction are what we all want, but are rarely natural. And many people confuse their career dissatisfaction with how they feel about their sweetheart or their family. Watch this video to figure out your motivation: toward something or away from it.
So be kind and do your best to blame absolutely no one, not even yourself. Check out your situation as you would look at a stranger's life. Be sure that your frustrations with, for example, the weeds in your garden, or a dead calm in your love life, aren't slopping over into the assessment of your work life. That's not easy, and there's always some overlap. But calmly assess the differences.
If you conclude that your grumpiness is primarily from your job, or from your small business that has somehow stalled, try this: Go back and remember when you chose your career path. Maybe you got sidetracked a long time ago. You may have started out to be a paramedic, but one day at lunch someone said something, and you went on to become a paralegal for which you've never had passion. Or perhaps you have doggedly stuck to your earlier vision so long that it has finally played itself out.
